How do I open a Seamly File directly from the folder

Hello hello,

I was wondering, when I try open the file directly from the folder, there is no app destination, can someone help me in figuring out how I can set it up that it grabs the seamly app? If that makes sense

Thanks!!

Lol just kidding I kinda knew I would be able to figure it out on my own, the app is saved in Programme Files (x86) > Seamly2D

But I still posted it as I wanted to add to the knowledge base and make you (the devs) aware of this as it is a bit of an area of friction. Thanks

Friction? It’s up to you what app you want to associate an sm2d file with. You could have 10 Seamly’s installed so you have to set the association of which one. Or if you’re like me you might set sm2d files to open in the text editor.

Thanks yes, I suppose I’m just thinking in terms of people who may not be so tech savvy they might struggle with such things

Yes you can have an app write the association to the registry when installing, but apps that do that without asking are the most annoying as they hijack the association. Actually I even find ones that ask annoying as its just one more NO to click. I’d rather set the association myself.

That being said, I can certainly look into adjusting the Windows installation script.

For the historical records, here’s how:

  • Right click on the .sm2d file
  • Select ‘Open with’ in the popup list
  • Browse to select ‘C:\Program Files (x86)\seamly2d\seamly2d.exe’
  • Click on the ‘Always’ button
