I can see some advances of being able to rotate and move whole sections of patterns for advanced users. And also for creating markers and layouts. At the moment, I’m not picturing how this will work, so I’ll put my trust in you and see what your idea is when you’ve refined it.
For the French curve tool, We need to talk. I have some thoughts on the subject that will need to be considered when making this tool. And we’ll need different sizes and also a Hip curve tool to complete the set.
As for importing parts of patterns from other patterns and/or images… I can see how that could work and each imported part will be able to go onto a draft board, so the label names and ID’s would be automatically changed and added to the pattern after the existing pieces. However, how will the formulas be adjusted to reflect the existing pattern’s formulas? Collars are created using the neckline and sleeves according to the armscye. At the moment, my pea-brain can only visualize patch pockets being imported successfully.
Ok, so that puts paid to my thoughts on Markers which may only need a 5° rotation.
The collars could be drafted with a numerical value, that gets replaced with a formula based on the neckline variables. Of course the collar would have to be imported after the blocks you want to use variables from. Maybe there could be a “notation” field in the basepoint tool, and a message is displayed when importing? It could read something like “replace such and such formula with the neckline length”. Or in theory with some collars you should be able to use the neck_circ to draft the collar, and if the bodice is drafted correctly it should have a base neck circumference of the measured neck_circ.
BTW… not sure what the armscye has to do with a collar?
Hmmm… another thought… upto this point I’ve onlly been thinking of importing blocks to then use the create pattern pieces from. Pieces like patch pockets and pocket flaps could also import a pattern piece with the block as they are what they are.
Collars are created using the neckline and sleeves according to the armscye.
I see some mega training up ahead in the forums. It’ll need to come with the warning… Do not use if you are not a master pattern maker with vast experience with Seamly.
Yes, patch pockets, flaps & straight waistbands should be fine A very neat place to start with this. Along with boxes, cushions, hats, etc..
Again… what does the arnyscye have to do with a collar? The armscye is the armhole to where a sleeve fits in. The only sleeve that affects the neckline is a raglan sleeve, and they don’t have a armscye.
That being said… any drafting system I’ve used for a 2 part sleeve for a men’s jacket does not require the armscye measurement. Like the front and back it’s proportinally based on the chest measurement. That’s why I didn’t associate the armscye measurement to the sleeve as it’s not required.
