Bra Band Non-stretch fabric

Hi All!

New here.

I’m working on a pattern, but the bra I’d like to make only stretches length wise and not by width, I want to know how to adjust the pattern so the band accounts for the non-stretch fabric I am using.

Hope this answers your question, if I’m off base please let me know.

Background on bras: Bra size is the band width, so both 34A and 34D have a 34" band width.

  • X = Bra band size
  • Y = Pattern band width
  • M = (X / Y) = (Bra band size / Pattern band width) = width Multiplier
  • Y * M = Pattern band width * Multiplier = Bra band size X

Multiply any pattern piece width you need to increase by M
