Can odd numbers be entered for base size and base height in a multisize file?

I am drafting a babywear pattern (18m) using Metric Pattern Cutting for Children’s Wear and Babywear measurements. The chest size is 50cm and the height is 80cm. In multisize, I guess the base size will be 25cm and the base height will be 40. How can I enter these figures as they are odd number?

If you have the child’s actual measurements, you can make a size chart for an individual.

If you would prefer to work with a multisize chart for children, I’d ignore the height option and enter a base height which increments by 2 or 3cm according to size only, since all of the other length measurements increment according to size only.

Even the sizes start at 22 but they really have no meaning until you apply a meaning, so I normally start with 22 as the smallest size and increment the sizes by 2 from there. Just make a note that (i.e.) size 22 is 18 months old & 24 will be 20 months old, etc.

In other words the size 22 in the size drop down

really just means it’s size #1, 24 is size #2, 26 is size #3… 72 is #26 and the actual measurement for each size is determined in the multisize measurement file? And if I (finally) understand correctly what you’ve been after me for so long is that besides being able to use inches, is to define a range of the sizes - which would subsequently display in the dropdown - so for ex: using a US “Misses” size chart range of 12 sizes 4 to 26 where the measurements for each size is calculated in the multisize file? In which case the size range belongs with the measurement file NOT the pattern, and we would edit the range in SeamlyMe NOT Seamly2D?

Yaaayyyyeeee

Yes, yes, yes… Please…

The size numbers are just numbers until we give them meaning. It would be amazing if we could define our own sizes in SeamlyMe according to the patternmaking system that we use.

And define the increments - Like if we use S, M, L, XL, etc. then we may want to increment by 3 instead of 2.

And in the case of babies, you may only want to increment by 1 size between birth & 1 month old, etc.

And the same with height. There’s no way a baby can be 150cm tall. (Edit: Sorry, I forgot I got you to lower the number to start at 50cm.) And incrementing the height by 6cm… Really? Most patternmaking systems increment by 4cm. But, once again, we need to set our base height & the increment ourselves - according to our patternmaking system.

In @Radhika’s case, she wants to make babywear for an 18 month old child. The sizes only begin at 22, so I can’t even advise her to use 18 as a size. The 18 month old child will be 22 months only in 4 months time, so then she will need the size 22 then, so what must she use today?

Yip! You set up a measurement file to cover a range of sizes, so it stands to reason that the sizes must be set in the measurement file & not the pattern. The pattern can handle a series of measurement files to cover a wider range of sizes than what are covered in 1 measurement file by just loading up then next size range measurement file into the pattern.

At which point, I’d expect the pattern to only allow me to use the sizes specified in the measurement file and no other size should be available. (I can’t tell you how many times I’ve used the wrong measurement file for the size of a garment.)

And then, of course, it would be nice for the USA users to be able to set up their multisize measurement files in inches. Personally, I use metric, but I can understand the frustration when you do all of your measurements in Imperial and then need to convert them to metric before creating your multisize measurement files. It’s just not fair.

It must display in the dropdown both in the pattern & in the measurements according to what is set in the measurements file.

I totally get it now.

We want to be able to customize a size chart with a starting size, an ending size, what the increment between each size is, AND for which ever chart you use work in the units you want. Theoretically we should be able to create a mesurement file in cm, and load them into a pattern in inches or vice versa. Then in the measurement file the measurments would be calculated as per the grade rules you set up… for example using the US sizes in the misses chart we would have size 4 to 26 incrementing by 2, the bust size would increment by 1 1/2" from size 4 to 12, and by 2" from 12 to 26. We would move the “chart” (range of sizes) setup from the Pattern Prefs in Seamly2D to SeamlyMe… and get rid of the cumbersome checkboxes of heights and sizes. The chart would be dynamically created by either 1)Providing the start size, the end size, and the increment OR 2) Custom sizes to accomodate for ex: XXS to XXL. Then… within reason… when you load a measurement file the toolbar dropdown (re)configures to the chart associated with the measurement file loaded.

So in a around about way to @Radhika 's question… no, currently we can’t change the dropdown to show odd sizes / heights, but what I have in mind we could.
