Contribution and Collaboration with Seamly2D

Hi Seamly2D Community,

I’ve been exploring Seamly2D for some time, and back in early 2025, I wrote a blog post highlighting its potential in the fashion space: What is the Best Pattern Drafting Software?: Seamly2D is Underrated

After using and loving it for almost a year, I’d love to contribute to the project in a meaningful way — whether by creating educational tutorials or documenting workflows. I want to help other designers understand and adopt Seamly2D effectively.

I’m happy to start small and contribute in ways that are most useful to the team. I am a trained pattern maker, and I’d love to hear if there’s an area where my experience could be helpful.

Thank you for your time.

Hello and welcome, @Funke_Gloria

Help is always highly appreciated. The Wiki always needs updating, along with the Manual. A video tutorial of item 11 - A Seamly2D Pattern from Start to Finish in the Manual section will also be welcome.

Besides the above, I wrote the PDF manuals waaaayyy… back in 2017 (I think) while I was learning the software, so they need updating, as well.

Wow! I’m a hit-'n-miss, self-trained (only after finding Seamly) pattern maker, so you’re very welcome to reply to people on the forum who ask for assitance.

Other than the above, you’re welcome to contact me in private if you have any ideas.

Help is ALWAYS welcome, so thank you.

Thank you so much for the warm welcome

And honestly, learning Seamly2D definitely saved my back compared to full paper drafting.

I’ll go through the manual and wiki properly, and I’m especially interested in creating video tutorials once I understand the current structure better.

I’d also be happy to assist on the forum where | can.

I’ll send you a private message shortly!

Welcome @Funke_Gloria

As @Grace has pointed out the manual on Wiki desperately needs updating.

Do you have any experience with HTML? What I’d really be interested in is someone who can help with creating the contents for a manual in the Help menu. Qt has a framework for creating help files… i.e. a searchable manual that would be accessible within the application. One way to create the content for the frsmework is with HML.

Ceratinly there are videos on Seamly out there on Youtube, but I would love to have our own videos on the Seamly Youtube channel and Facebook. :slightly_smiling_face:

I have a lot of experience in video and audio production, but I just don’t have the time to create videos while maintaining the applications codebase. I certainly can offer you help in regards to video and audio though.

Might I suggest… Search the forums and develop a top 10 Questions users ask help for - not counting bug related issues - and (initially) create tutorials on those top 10 issues. Or… you could even be more direct - just create a dev topic “What would you like to see to in a tutorial video?” :slightly_smiling_face:
