I’ve just started using Seamly for a few days and I have a question. After finishing the body block (draft A), I want to copy the front and back neck parts to create the collar in draft B.
Could anyone please tell me if it’s possible to copy parts between drafts in Seamly, or is there another way to do it instead?
Not really. I won’t get into the techo mumbo jumbo, but it has a lot to do with the the potential collision of point names, and resolving the references in the formulas. You would have to really understand the xml structure of a pattern, and know how to cut and paste parts in a text editor, and not have name collisions.
My suggestion is just draft the collar over the front and back in the same block. When you create your collar pattern pieces, you’re just going to select the points and curves from the block that you need. Ditto with the front and back. If it needs to be in different blocks you’re just going to have to redraft the necklines.
You can also use the Groups tool to put different parts of a block into different groups to show or hide them for less clutter.
I agree with @Douglas about putting the different parts into groups so that you can show or hide them.
However, I’d like to add 1 more thing to what he has said… you may wish to move and rotate the back so that the shoulder seams either match or overlap/separate slightly depending on the collar that you are creating and redraw the curves according to the new curve for the collar - joining the front to the back. Put these into their own group, too.
