If you feel more comfortable with custom measurements, then there is no need for you to use the Known measurements. It is always you personal choice of what you are comfortable with. Most of the German designers on this forum use the German book names as Custom names and they are designing beautiful garments. One further piece of advise… Start off as you mean to go on. That way, you will learn well, be comfortable and have beautiful designs
