Forum Readability Issues with dark theme for drop down menus

Hi,

I took @discobot’s advice and played around with my preferences, I found this issue though, I think you need to either change the font or the background colour when a drop down option is selected/highlighted.

Above are two examples of what I’m referring to.

Thanks!

Firstly, we try our best to keep all sorts of Bots off the forum for our users comfort.

And then… @Douglas has added an option on background colour in the Application Preferences for the use of Darkmode but this may have a few issues and may not have been pushed through yet, but it is being taken care of.

She’s talking about the darkmode on the Forums. But… the background color - while not a darkmode - does give the user the option to get rid of the white background. It was merged last week.

It’s the way the css is setup in the installed theme… by asDark. We can’t edit the theme. Would have to find and install another one. Not a priority at the momment.

@Grace Discobot is the bot that gives you tips and tricks about the forum, I got ‘promoted’ so its putting me through a training

 Have fun. It’s the 1st time I’ve ever heard of it.

Did you find it useful> Or annoying?

Well it now answers my question I brought a few week ago in our meeting about a couple “admins” on the forums that I had no idea of who they are.

Discobot… short for Discord Bot… a narrative admin bot that teaches new users.

I have yet to finish it, but so far I found it interesting… really I just want to see if I can get another badge lol

The badges just come naturally the more a user interacts with the forums.

I love that you (Seamly Devs) gamified the forum, if there’s any social media I wanted to be dopamine dependent on it would be this one

It’s actually built in to the Discourse forum software base, not something unique to Seamly’s instance of it:

Unless we disable it.

From what I remember when I joined the forum, discobot was marginally helpful in understanding how to use the forum for three reasons:

  1. I was already familiar with web forums
  2. I had already spent several weeks lurking
  3. Some of its advice did not apply to the Seamly forum. &
  4. I can’t figure out if it can answer the questions which I actually have about the forum.

I guess my question is should we disable the Discobot or leave it? We can rename the “bot” to something more descriptive and less cynical sounding. To me anything with the name “bot” now carries a bad conotation.
