How to add ease to the draft?

Hi all,

I’m new to using Seamly2D and loving it so far. I have just about perfected my fitting bodice block, and now would like to create a garment. As usual, I’d like to drop the armhole by 1/2 inch and bring it out by 1/2 inch, so need to move both points on the side seam ( O → P based on HJA), which should enlarge the armhole curve and change the waist curve as well. I’m at my wits end, especially because I’m sure I did it a few days ago when I was playing around, but don’t remember how.

Please help me.

Hello and welcome to the Seamly forum, @abolton

O is at a 90° angle from N. If you would like to have it interactive and adjustable, Then I’d first create a Custom Variable with the amount of ease you would like to add in this area. This will enable you to change the value from pattern to pattern.

Next, you may use the History to add a point Na after N and before point O, using the Point - Length and Angle tool from N with this new variable in the Length formula and 180° in the Angle formula. (There are some topics on the forum about using the History.)

Once you’ve done these 2 steps, then you can edit point O to go from the base point Na instead of point N:

Point P should adjust from point O automatically.

Once this is all done, you should be able to change the value in the variable and the pattern should change accordingly.

PS I will be in & out of here during the day today, so if you have any problems, please do shout.

I’ve just added this adjustment to my master draft & it looks like this:

If I make the variable 0, then it looks like this:

If I change it to 1”:

I put in the point Oa just so that you can compare the original point O with the new point O.

You’re very welcome. I’ll be checking in here from time to time during today, so if you have any problems with the History, please drop a message here and I’ll do my best to help you. I just won’t be around tomorrow.

Please remember to save a copy of your pattern before you attempt the History.
