Intersect Line and axis by distance, not angle

I’m trying to follow this exercise directly in Seamly. In step 17 I must draw a line equivalent to the circumference of the armhole divided by 2, starting from point f1 and ending on line C-G.

Using the intersect line and axis it was possible to place the point,

but only setting the angle. As an alternative I added a line and measured it as I changed the angle.

Is there another way to do this? using a formula from my measures

Hi @Heitor_Hatherly, welcome to Seamly!

Yes indeed there is! & you don’t even have to use Trigonometry! (As I regretfully did my first time.)

Use the “Intersect Arc and Line” tool, which is that tool with the green arc, two tools up from “Intersect Line & Axis.”

It works the same way. First define two points along the line, then select the center/axis point. Input the radius as the measurement (armhole/2)

Happy Drafting!

Thank you very much, I started studying pattern drafting less than a month ago and discovered Seamly this week. I’m still trying to learn which tools are right for each occasion.

Currently there are some issues with this tool (which I started to fix and got side tracked with some other bug issues)… mainly when dealing with the case where there may be 2 intersect points, where you don’t have an option to specifically choose which point to select. Such as in a case like this where the Intersect point A4 can flip, depending on whether or not the Intersect lies ON the line segment. Currently it’s technically an Intersect Arc and Line Segment tool.

Until I finish finish fixing the tool, I suggest just using it in cases where you use a relatively short arc length (less than 180 degs between start and end angles) so you are only able to have 1 intersect possible.

Hello I can see that you speak portuguese, so I will give you a tip from a very good tutorial at Youtube, but it is in Spanish language… you can use the portuguese subtitles to a better understanding, let’s talk in portuguese about that: O tutorial está em espanhol, mas cada ferramenta é explicada com um exemplo que você pode reproduzir para aprender, o canal se chama “Fashion Patron”.

Fashion Patron posts links to her Youtube tutorials on the forum, as they become available, and also posts links to them in the Seamly Wiki under the Community Video Channels.
