Introduction

Hi I am new here and thought I would introduce myself. My name is Chantale. I recently downloaded the Seamly program in order to familiarize myself with digital pattern making as I deep dive into making my own clothing to combat the fast fashion industry. Also, I always find that new clothing never fits quite right and I have to settle for what is available. I am hopping that this new hobby will bring me joy and a sense of accomplishment.

Bom dia!

I’m Serafina, from the US but living in Portugal since I retired 3 years ago. I recently got back into sewing, although I was never more than an advanced beginner. Some of my interests are sustainability and creativity.

I’m not sure if I will get into using Seamly, but wanted to show my appreciation for this project. One of my nieces is interested in fashion so I will make sure she knows about it.

Regards, Serafina

Hello and welcome, @Sera

It’s an exciting and very satisfying journey into pattern making. There is always a sense of accomplishment when you have made something from the very beginning.

I wish both you and your niece many happy hours designing and sewing.

Thank you, Grace!

I think I may have to work on my personal bodice block. I might do it on paper first, but the idea of being able to build off it digitally is intriguing.

Hello from the USA! My name is Bambi Lynne, and I’m excited to use Seamly2D & SeamlyMe. I just learned about these programs recently.

Last week, I was entering my mesurements into my own Excel spreadsheet, wondering if this could be easier. And it will be! I think I’ll catch on reasonably well as I’ve had experience with Adobe Illustrator. Looking forward to interacting with all of you through the forums!

Hello and welcome to the Seamly forum, @BambiLynne

We’re always excited to get new and excited patterenmakers on the forum and are always happy to try our best to help.

Seamly is quite different from Illustrator in various ways. Illustrator doesn’t adjust the patterns according to the measurements files; Objects can be added to Illustrator in any order, while Seamly works in a very linear fashion; Lines and curves in Seamly rely mainly on formulas while Illustrator is more on direct measurements or numbers.

So yes, the differences are quite vast and it’s a whole new learning curve. But I don’t think you’ll regret it. I do suggest to most new users to do the quick run-through of the pattern in the Wiki to get acquainted with the software. It can save you a lot of wondering later on.

In the meantime, relax and have fun. We’re on here often to offer help when needed.
