Label definition

I have many problems with placing pattern piece labels.

doesn’t matter if I switch length and width

It gets really mess up with small rotated labels. It shows some also different positions on the screen as later in the exported svg or pdf. It it get really crazy if labels placed with top and bottom position. Maybe in screen correct, in exported files way to big and replaced.

Maybe would be handy if labels always placed in the center with max width of the pattern piece. This would save adding many anker points.

Hello, @MG2024

I agree that it can get really horrible on the small & narrow pattern pieces.

I tend to use only a centre anchor point, adjust the height of the label to height or width of the pattern piece that it needs to fit into, and then use a line in the pattern piece to set the angle.

This isn’t a good example, since it’s a straight piece, but I’m sure it will give you an example. I’ve limited the height & the width of the label’s boundary box to the width of piece and the text is resized automatically not to exceed these limits.

I just did a quick pattern piece 1.75 in wide, added a label rotated -90 and anchored using a center anchor.

BTW… if you haven’t receently updated, get the latest release this coming Sun where improvements have been made to the SVG export.

Just use a Center anchor point.

95% of the time the labels are not going to be centered in a pattern piece. Thus the anchor points to keep labels and grainlines anchored in the same relative position as different measurements are applied. Besides… there’s 2 labels and a grainline with future plans to add Text to pieces… which one should get "centered’? You’re going to need anchor points anyway.

Sorry my mistake.

I figured out that I activated in application pref. the pattern label. It was not doubling the text it was just a 2nd label.

Yup. There’s 2 labels. Either one can use any label template… even the same. They’re just named Pattern & Pieces you can distinguish between the Pattern label info that is common to all pieces, and the Piece label info that is relevant to a given piece.

Some users have even used 1 of the labels to place text like “On Fold” on a piece.
