I like the pitivi approach. It demonstrates a commitment to follow an
organized plan. As a former programmer (FORTRAN 77) I understand that
having a comprehensive development plan always proves to be the most
prudent and efficient. Like airplane flight plans, development is never
exactly to the plan but the deliverables are achievable in a responsible
way.
I feel very strongly about having a well defined plan with reasonable
monetary goals prior to starting any fundraising campaign. Having a
responsible initial fundraiser means we can have more! Roman will
appreciate that, I’m sure ;DOn Thu, Mar 6, 2014 at 2:16 PM, Kunda Loves Scribus scribus.user@gmail.comwrote:
I like what pitivi did in their ‘Well defined plan’ portion (
http://fundraiser.pitivi.org/) where they gave $ amounts to each
milestone. So people have a good understanding what is being done with
their money.
I like what synfig did/does (though very labor intensive) where they have
the community decide what the initiative will be (see
Konstantin Dmitriev | Indiegogo).
It’s good to have a video or animation with some content so people can
watch.
The Gimp OpenInitiative campaign created by Jehan has a lot of info but no
real human touch to it. It’s slowly reaching the goal though.
If we tie Valentina progress in to other OSS projects we could tap in to
their user base. The cross-pollination is a good way to gain success.
Pitivi is doing with Gstreamer. MediaGoblin is doing this with Federation
which promotes more Anonymity online can attract people who have interest
in that. So if Valentina figures how to bridge with Blender, MakeHuman,
Inkscape, Krita, GIMP etc… aka the rest of the LGM folks that would be a
possible means to success.
