Problem with sequence when creating pattern piece (won't recognize curve)

Hello everyone! Once again I seem to be asking for help… can anyone tell me what the problem is with my pattern piece?!

I’ve tried lots of different times to create this piece, and I’m sure I’m reversing the curves correctly, but it just won’t recognize the sequence I’m selecting everything in. Here is a screenshot of the piece I’m trying to make; I’ve indicated with green arrows the problematic parts:

(it’s basically mirrored horizontally and vertically so all four quadrants should be the same)

Any thoughts very welcome, I have no idea how to make it work!

By works fine, I un-reverse that curve

just this, you know that you can change directions of curves with pattern piece properties?

Oh my god I was sure I tried exactly that and it didn’t work! Twice!
