Temporary files

What are all the temporary files for? There are lock files and every time I save my file it seems to create another file with 063 appended to it. What does that mean and why 63? Can we tidy this up because I am spending ever increasing amounts of time deleting these files. I have no idea what they are for and they are just making a mess. If it is for auto-backup, could a folder be nominated to store this mess out of harms way so that I can keep my pattern folders neat and tidy please?

Thanks

Hello, @Byeek

The system is being upgraded every week by 2 different developers, so we’re going through a lot of version releases at the moment with our weekly updates. When you have updated your Seamly, please do a Save As under the original name. This will update the version in the pattern file, so that it won’t create a new version update using the automatic backup. Once you have done that, you can delete all of the other files that are there for backup in case something goes wrong.

If you have a newer release date version, (July 1st or more recent for sure,) it should be saving those backup files in a separate “backups” folder.

No. There are lock files only when you open a file. This is so the app knows the file is open… and uses this to tell you the pattern is already open if you try to open it again.

It means the file you are opening is pattern version 0.6.3 and is being opened by a newer version. You need to save the pattern file with the newer verion you’re using, and it won’t create the backup files everytime you open the pattern. This also goes for any measurement file.

OR

Update to the latest version and it won’t keep making those backup files. It will only make 1 backup file in the My Backups path you set in the prefs:

BTW… autosave files are just that. The app will autosave the file based on the time set in the preferences.
