Truing Front and Back pattern pieces with each other

I did see a previous post where Grace uses the Move tool for this. Is there a good video on how to use that tool or would there be a way to be just click on one of the pieces and move/rotate it as if it were a paper pattern along side the other piece?

Can you be more specific… when you say pieces do you mean draft blocks (draft mode) or pattern pieces (piece mode)?

Pieces in piece mode are moveable… just click and hold the left mouse button and drag the piece.

If you draft the front and back in 2 different blocks, you can move a block by clicking and holding the left mouse button on the base point (it always the red colored point), and dragging it. You can also move or refine the position of the base point by editing the x:y coordinates:

If you’ve drafted then front and back in one block, then you will have to use the move and rotate tools to create a group of the front or back to position the 2 seams next to one another. May be a bit of trial and error to get the right position. In the future we need an option to snap a move group to some other point.

If on the other hand you’re trying to check if the length of a seam matches on the front and back, the best way (for now) is to draw 2 lines somewhere on the block… one with a formula representing the parts that make up the front seam length, and the other that makes up the back seam length. Then you can compare the lengths of the 2 lines to see if it falls within an acceptable difference. This trick is also useful for checking if a sleeve cap matches the armhole… taking into account any gather of the sleeve cap.

I was talking about in either drafting or piece mode. In the drafting mode it just seems a little complicated to try and match up the necklines and armholes to make sure they are a smooth fit with each other and in piece mode you can move them from side to side but you can’t rotate them, unless I’m missing something.

Ok… so you’re wanting to match up the front an back shulder seams - so yes, it’s a bit complicated as like I said you have to use the Move tool or the Move & Rotate tools.

You are not missing anything. Currently the pattern pieces can not be rotated. You could export the pieces in Piece mode as an svg then manipulate the pieces in another app like Inkscape.

Ok, I’ll keep practicing with the tools and also try with inkscape. Thanks for all you do! :slightly_smiling_face:
