Hi everyone! I’m Dee, a long time home sewer for myself and my kids, living in Brisbane, Aus.
Complete starter here, I’ve been freehand making patterns and fitting by trial and error for many years and have just discovered Seamly on Friday. I’ve finally had some time to install and have a fiddle around today, but I’ve made it as far as installation, and opening both Seamly and SeamlyMe.
I’ve read through both manuals and can’t find how to move forward.
I have opened SeamlyMe to create a measurement file for myself, I’ve selected all the measurement points that are standard and added those points that give me trouble with off-the-rack sizing.
Now I can’t work out how to add the measurements of each point. I’ve gone back to the screen with measurements/information and have the table of all the measurement points. When I try to click into the cell to add the actual measurement, I can’t edit it.
I’d suggest quickly working your way through this tutorial to get a good idea of how Seamly2D & SeamlyME work and how to use the tools. It won’t take long and then you’ll be able to go back to your pattern.
However, to reply to your question, when you open the property editor of a point, in the top right of the box where you want to insert your measurements is an F(x) button. This is the formula wizard button.
Click on it and the Formula Wizard will open, where you can select your measurements, variables, or line lengths, angles and anything else that you may need…
I can’t quite picture what you mean here, so I’m hoping that my explanation will help. If it doesn’t, please let me know.
However, it seems that I’m not getting the wizards or property editor opening at all. I click on the point, or select the point in the top toolbar, but nothing happens. I’ve tried drawing all of the tools and can’t seem to get anything working.
I somehow think I might have a different version of the software? I only downloaded it 4 days ago, but none of the pop-up windows, or menu systems look the same.
When you start a new pattern file, you only have 1 point available on the screen. This is point A and all of the other points originate out of this point in a tree-like fashion.
Only 1 tool will connect to this point to create a 2nd point, and that tool is the Point - Length and Angle tool:
Click on the tool and then on point A, drag a distance from that point and hit Enter:
The box will come up where you can enter the formulas that you need to use.
After you’ve created that second point, you’ll be able to explore all of the other tools to see what they do, or use that same tool on a different point to a different angle to create another point.
I’ve updated my Seamly2D to the latest version and I’ve been working on it quite a bit in the past few days, so it isn’t the download.
Crocodiles & alligators are crocodilians, camels & llamas are camelids, ergo turtles, tortoises & terrapins are turtlians! It may be grammar-school logic, but I get peevish about calling desert crawlers a type of ocean swimmer. lol
