(Zoom feature explained here) Panty Complete -> One of the best intro tutorials

Hello!

Just as blender has the donut… seamly 2d has the panty  I just completed the panty pattern. I skipped past the layout section as I’ll struggle with that at a later stage on an actual project of mine I think.

I’ve really learned a lot and Seamly2d seams much less overwhelming to learn as it did initially.

I have one question for anyone that can help me though!

I find the zoom feature to be lacking a bit. In Autocad, Blender, Illustrator, etc. I can always zoom in and out quite easily either using a shortcut key and/or my mouse.

I seem to always have to use the buttons up at the top right corner. Even ctrl + which is supposed to zoom in only zooms to the point of fit and then it doesn’t work anymore.

Hope this question makes sense. Can somebody help me? Thanks!!!

 I think we all cut our teeth on the panty pattern. Thank you to @JCDesign for updating it on our Wiki, especially for Seamly2D.

Go to File > Application Preferences and go to the Graphics on the left & the Navigation folder. If you want to use the CTRL key with the wheel to zoom, then place a check mark here - I prefer just to use the wheel to zoom without the CTRL key - I set the speed to 10 because otherwise it zooms to fast for me:

In addition to what Grace mentioned about toggling the Ctrl as a Mouse wheel modifier, I suggest you play with each of the Zoom tools to undersatand what each zoom does.

Accessible by either the Zoom Toolbar:

The View Menu:

One of the key shortcuts.

Note: The Zoom to Point is handy when you get a very busy pattern, and you’re trying to find a specific point. You can use the drop down:

or the Zoom to Point button / menu item / shortcut

which pops up the box to enter a point:

You can also zoom by:

Double clicking on a group object in the Group Manager:

Or simply Double click on any object in Draft mode or Pattern Piece in Piece mode.

Another Zoom related feature is when using the Zoom to Selected area:

You can select the rubberband color for whether you’re selecting in a postive direction or negative direction:

Positive - Down and to the Right:

Negative - Up and to the Left:

Thank you so much!! Actually I had read somewhere to use the scrollbar and it didn’t work for me so I figured they deleted the option in a new update or something/

Turns out in my default setting the CTRL option was checked so that’s all I had to do to get it to zoom. Thanks again!

Yes… the Ctrl option toggles the bahavior of the zoom and vetical scroll. I found having to hold the Ctrl to zoom was annoying as I’m use to just using the wheel to zoom in CorelDraw. To me scrolling with just the wheel only makes sense in a text based document. So I added the option to switch the behavior.
