I want to walk my sleeve pattern to my armhole to check the fit and also to rightly place notches on the curve.
I’d appreciate any points to already written articles that are easy to understand or maybe a video. Thank you.
The length of the curve is the curve “walk”. If there are 2 curves, then you need to add them together to get the whole distance. The same applies to the lines.
I normally put a line on the sleeve bicep line which takes the sleeve cap curve minus the armhole curves. If this gives a negative result, then I’ve made a mistake and need to adjust the sleeve cap. If it’s over 1” (2.5cm) in the positive then I also need to adjust something:
Sorry, you’re not a pain, I just replied to you quickly because I had a meeting.
It depends on where you want to place the notches. If it’s on the sleeve cap that needs to match the notches on the armhole, then you place a point at the same distance on the sleeve cap curve from the underarm as it is placed on the armhole. So if the back bodice is on the left and the sleeve cap back is on the left and you drafted the sleeve cap curve from left to right, in 1 piece, then you’ll use the Point on Spline tool with a formula of the back armhole section from the notch to the underarm.
For the front notch, you’ll use the formula of the sleeve cap curve minus the front armhole section from the notch to the underarm.
This way, the underarm section between the notches will be exact and if any easing needs to be done, it’s between the 2 notches.
