After it was requested on this topic, we held a Questions and Answers meeting on Zoom. We were only 4 people at the meeting and it was a nice, friendly discussion on curves and formulas, etc. which we all enjoyed.
We decided to have another meeting next week Friday at 7pm CAT (Central Africa Time). If anyone would like to join us, please send me a private message so that I can send you the location.
Unfortunately, I only speak English, but I go slowly and you can always ask me to repeat in a simpler way or in different words if you don’t understand - most people will be happy to have the extra time to make sure that they are following correctly and that they have understood.
I’m in South Africa, so my time is almost the same as in France, so that shouldn’t be a problem, and I’m trying to do this trousers pattern in small sections over a few weeks of 1 to 1.5 hours long on a Saturday, so that people who work may attend.
At the moment, I am still putting a lesson plan together, so it may be a while before I start this session.
Yes please. That would be great. I downloaded your pattern for bodice block, and trouser block and it’s so great. Thank you for creating those.
Do you have anymore? I had a look but haven’t been able to find anything yet. I wanted to create a bodice that goes down to the hip rather than the waist.
I can’t think which patterns you downloaded that I created. There are probably a lot that I posted on my learning journey.
If you take 5 measurements - waist to hip, front side and back - and then the hip - front and back arc half. extend the front and back centre lines by the distance of the front and back waist to hip measurements to get the hip level on the centre lines. Then, at a right angle to these new points, measure out a line the distance of the front and back hip arcs to establish the width of the hips (you can add 1cm ease to each of the arcs).
Measure the distance of the side waist to hip from the existing waist side point to the new hip arc points for the front and the back side seam.
Draw a curve from about 2cm above the waist point on the side seam to the new point at the hip on the side seam to resemble the shape of the body on both front and back (make sure that they’re the same length). Draw another gentle curve from the centre front to the side seam on both the front and the back.
Place a point on the back hip line curve at 270° from the centre of the dart on the back waist line. Measure downwards between these 2 points 2/3’s for the lower dart point at the back and connect the dart point to the existing dart legs on the waist line. Repeat on the front dart but instead of measuring down 2/3’s, just measure down by 1/2.
I hope you have been well. I still lurk occasionally. I would like to be added to the list to get updates about zoom meetings. I have mostly been working with bodices (in my costume work) and not done much with pants.
